UN Subcommittee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2007) as a springboard, this committee will work towards upholding and advancing the human rights of persons with disabilities. This committee will gather nations to discuss these barriers and develop strategies to ameliorate and resolve the unique challenges faced by this community. Often, the voices of persons with disabilities are regularly marginalized, even in discussions of their own community's challenges and hardships. Therefore, delegates will work to reassess the frameworks by which the international community approaches these human rights issues in order to ensure accessible solutions and better center and prioritize disabled people's voices. The committee will work to create innovative and unique solutions tailored to the multi-layered challenges faced by this community, while considering the ways these challenges intersect with other social, political, and economic issues. Specifically, topics such as gender disparity and discrimination as well as legal and systemic barriers will be considered.
