Every four days, a journalist is killed. Freedom of the press and the ability of the media to report fairly and safely is increasingly under fire. Founded in France in 1985, Reporters Without Borders (RSF, “Reporters sans frontières”) is a non-profit organization working to protect the freedom of the press and of information worldwide. The RSF executive board, made up of 25 elected board members from journalists and publications across the globe, sits at least four times a year at its headquarters in Paris. With consultant status at the United Nations, RSF board members are responsible for the development, design, and rolling out of RSF strategy to defend the press, human rights, and democracy.
This session of the RSF executive board will report on events and news in McMUN 2022’s committees, keeping in mind those priorities. Delegates will represent members of the RSF Executive Board and International Council. To tackle this crucial responsibility, delegates must get creative in their writing and reporting skills by asking questions, interviewing delegates, and publishing articles. In addition to reading the RSF background guide, we encourage delegates to familiarize themselves with the other McMUN committees and the topics they will discuss, to help when reporting on those committees.
