United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

Welcome to the ESCAP committee at McMUN 2025. This committee will address some of the most pressing economic and social issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Our sessions will focus on fostering collaborative solutions and innovative policies that drive sustainable development and economic growth.

ESCAP is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP's mandate is to promote economic and social development through regional and subregional cooperation and integration. Our primary objectives include addressing critical challenges such as poverty reduction, economic inequality, social inclusion, and sustainable development. Our goal is to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Asia-Pacific.

The Asia-Pacific region comprises countries with a highly divided economic portfolio, where over two-thirds of the region has a GDP per capita below the regional average. This disparity is due to the unequal distribution of wealth. ESCAP aims to finance the region more equitably, attracting increased public investments and ensuring that vulnerable populations receive adequate care. By investing in these populations, ESCAP seeks to enhance human capital and provide consistent, quality care in areas such as medical attention, infrastructure, and education.
