Falling from Glory: The International Air Transport Association
Aviation has long been hailed as the business of freedom. However, recent accidents and economic downturns have led many commentators to speculate that the aviation industry may have finally “fallen from glory”.
Representing delegates to the International Air Transport Association (IATA, the body responsible for representing most of the airlines in the world, each airline’s representative will be challenged with tasking this mounting problem all while operating within an Association that some argue that is the source of the problem: an oligopoly restricting the freedom of the industry.
In an age where many air accidents and risks can increasingly be sourced to the duopolistic competition between Boeing and Airbus, the committee will be tasked with many questions. In these times, how can airlines sustainably manage competition? How can we reintegrate the global aviation market? How can executives deliver upon their promise for a sustainable, safe, customer-friendly aviation industry? The 2021 Annual Meeting of IATA will seek to bridge the conversation between aircraft manufacturers and airlines, bringing these discussions to the forefront about the future of the industry.
